The Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II (exam code Plat-Dev-301; PD2) is the advanced Salesforce developer credential. This course prepares you for it: advanced Apex and design patterns; asynchronous and batch Apex; large data volumes and governor limits; integration (Apex REST/SOAP web services and callouts); advanced Lightning Web Components (and Aura and Visualforce); advanced security (sharing and Apex managed sharing); testing; custom metadata and settings; and application design. Platform Developer II is earned in two parts: (1) a proctored multiple-choice exam (60 scored questions plus up to 5 unscored, 120 minutes) delivered by Pearson VUE - at a test centre or online - with the voucher purchased through Trailhead Academy; and (2) a set of hands-on Trailhead Superbadges (most current sources list three: Apex Specialist, Data Integration Specialist and Advanced Apex Specialist - confirm the current requirement). You can complete the two parts in either order. The passing score for the exam is around 70% (one source cites 65% - confirm the current figure). This credential requires that you hold Platform Developer I first.
Platform Developer II is the advanced Salesforce developer credential and one of the most rigorous in the ecosystem - it is the rare certification requiring a prerequisite credential (Platform Developer I), hands-on Trailhead Superbadges, and a proctored exam. Earning it signals senior-level ability: advanced Apex and design patterns, integration, and sophisticated application design. It maps to senior developer, technical consultant and architect roles.
