The IASSC Certified Lean Practitioner is the entry point into the Lean method. Lean comes from the Toyota Production System and is all about removing waste, improving the flow of work, and building a culture of continuous improvement (Kaizen). Unlike the Six Sigma belts, Lean focuses on efficiency and flow, with very little statistics. As a Lean Practitioner (also called "Lean Bronze" or a "Lean Yellow Belt"), you learn the fundamentals of Lean and how to use core Lean tools to support and take part in improvement efforts in your area - usually part-time, alongside your normal role. It applies in any environment: manufacturing, production, offices, IT and software development. This certification is issued by IASSC and delivered by PeopleCert - the same globally recognised examination body behind PRINCE2 and ITIL. There are no prerequisites: anyone can take the exam. The exam is a 50-question, closed-book, online-proctored exam, and the certificate is recognised worldwide with a public certification register and a digital badge. Lean Practitioner is the first rung of the Lean ladder. Lean Leader teaches you to lead improvement teams, and Lean Expert takes you to organisation-wide Lean leadership.
Lean skills are valued across almost every industry - manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, finance, government, offices and IT. A Lean Practitioner certificate shows you understand the Lean method and can contribute to improvement efforts, which is a real advantage in any operations, quality or process role. There are no prerequisites for the IASSC Certified Lean Practitioner - anyone can take it, whatever their background or industry. You do not need a statistics background; Lean keeps the tools practical and visual. No prior Lean training and no project work are required to sit the exam, although training (ideally with an Accredited Training Organisation) is highly recommended to prepare.
