The Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) is the IAPP's certification for responsible AI governance. This course prepares you for the AIGP exam: the foundations of AI and machine learning, the AI life cycle and its risks and harms; the laws, standards and frameworks that govern AI - including the EU AI Act, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO/IEC 42001, GDPR and the OECD AI Principles; governing AI development (data governance, model testing, risk and impact assessments, documentation and human oversight); and governing AI deployment and use (monitoring, incident response, vendor risk, transparency and ongoing compliance). AIGP is a governance certification for the people who oversee AI - privacy, compliance, risk, legal and security professionals - not a technical certification for building models. There is no prerequisite to sit the exam. The exam is 100 multiple-choice questions over 2.75 hours, delivered by Pearson VUE at a test centre or online. It is scored on a 100-500 scale with a passing score of 300 (a scaled score, not a percentage). Once certified, you hold the certification for a 2-year term and maintain it with 20 CPE credits and a maintenance fee.
AI governance has become a boardroom and regulatory priority, and the AIGP is the recognised certification for it. With the EU AI Act now in force and frameworks like the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and ISO/IEC 42001 in wide use, organisations need people who can govern AI responsibly. AIGP shows employers you can do exactly that - and it pairs naturally with the IAPP's privacy certifications for professionals being asked to lead AI initiatives.
