The Product Owner is one of the most important roles on a Scrum team - the person who owns the product vision, manages the backlog, and makes sure the team builds what delivers the most value. The Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) is the globally recognised entry certification for that role, issued by Scrum Alliance. CSPO is earned by attending a live, interactive two-day (16-hour) course taught by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) - one of a small group of trainers authorised by Scrum Alliance. There is no exam: you earn the certification by taking part in the course. There are also no prerequisites, so you can start whether or not you have used Scrum before. In this course you will learn the Scrum framework and the Product Owner's part in it: how to shape and communicate a product vision, build and order a product backlog, work with stakeholders and the development team, and focus every decision on delivering value. CSPO is the first step in the Scrum Alliance Product Owner track, and the required foundation for the Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (A-CSPO). Your certification is valid for two years and is renewed with Scrum Education Units.
The Product Owner is one of the most sought-after roles in agile organisations, and CSPO is the certification employers most recognise for it. It shows you understand the Scrum framework and can do the Product Owner's job: shaping product vision, managing a backlog, and driving value. Because there is no exam and no prerequisite, it is also one of the most accessible professional certifications - the main requirement is attending the CST-led course.
