The Pennsylvania Real Estate Salesperson License is the entry-level license to work as a real estate agent in Pennsylvania. A salesperson lists and sells real estate under the supervision of a licensed broker, and may be paid only through that broker. It is issued by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission (part of the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, Department of State) - it is a license, not a certification. To earn it, you complete 75 hours of approved pre-license education - a 30-hour Real Estate Fundamentals course and a 45-hour Real Estate Practice course - then pass the state licensing exam, which has a national portion (about 80 scored questions) and a Pennsylvania state portion (about 40 scored questions), each requiring 75%. You also complete a background check and obtain sponsorship from a Pennsylvania broker to activate the license.
A Pennsylvania real estate salesperson license is your entry into a large and varied property market, from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to the suburbs and rural counties. As a licensed salesperson (working under a broker) you can represent buyers and sellers, list and show property, and earn commission.
