The California Real Estate Broker License is the senior real estate license in California. It is issued by the California Department of Real Estate (DRE) - it is a license, not a certification. To earn it, you complete eight statutorily required college-level courses (360 hours), meet the experience requirement (normally two years of full-time licensed salesperson experience within the last five years, or a qualifying equivalent, or a four-year degree with a real estate major/minor), then pass the DRE broker exam (200 multiple-choice questions, four hours, 75% to pass). You also pass a Live Scan background check.
