The Florida Real Estate Broker License is the senior real estate license in Florida. Unlike a sales associate - who must work under a broker - a licensed broker can own a real estate firm and hire and supervise sales associates. It is issued by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) through the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) - it is a license, not a certification. To earn it, you must have 24 months of active sales-associate experience within the prior five years (Florida sales associates must first complete their 45-hour sales-associate post-licensing course), complete a 72-hour FREC-approved broker pre-licensing course (FREC II), then pass the Florida broker state exam (Pearson VUE, 100 multiple-choice questions, 75% to pass). You also submit a DBPR application, complete fingerprinting and a background check, and file a DBPR RE 13 Broker Transactions form to activate the license (it is issued inactive until then).
