The Certified Information Privacy Professional / Europe (CIPP/E) is the IAPP's certification for European privacy law, centred on the GDPR. This course prepares you for the CIPP/E exam: the GDPR (principles, lawful bases, data-subject rights, controller and processor obligations, and international data transfers); the European data protection framework and its regulators (the EDPB and national supervisory authorities); enforcement; ePrivacy rules; European national laws; and newer EU digital regulation such as the EU AI Act and NIS2. CIPP/E is the most widely held of the five regional concentrations of the CIPP, the IAPP's privacy-law certification. Each concentration covers the law of a region - Europe, Asia, Canada, China or the United States. It pairs naturally with a CIPM (which covers how to run the privacy program). There is no prerequisite to sit the exam.
The GDPR is the world's most influential privacy law, and its reach extends to organisations everywhere that offer goods or services to, or monitor, people in the EU or EEA. That makes GDPR knowledge one of the most in-demand skills in privacy - and CIPP/E is the recognised way to prove it. It shows employers you understand the GDPR, the European data protection framework, ePrivacy and European national laws. It is the most widely held privacy certification, it is ANSI-accredited, and it cross-sells naturally with a CIPM for those who also need the privacy program.
