Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals (DP-900) is the entry-level data certification for the Microsoft cloud. It proves you understand core data concepts (relational vs non-relational data; transactional vs analytical workloads; common data roles), relational data on Azure (Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for PostgreSQL and MySQL), non-relational data on Azure (Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Blob and Table storage), and analytics workloads on Azure (Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory and Power BI). The exam has about 40 to 60 questions in roughly 45 to 60 minutes. It is graded on a scaled score: you need 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000 to pass. Because scoring is weighted, 700 does not mean 70% of questions correct. The exam costs about US$99 (varies by region) and is taken online with remote proctoring or at a test centre, delivered through Pearson VUE. There are no prerequisites.
Azure Data Fundamentals is the recognised first step into data on the Microsoft cloud. It gives beginners the vocabulary and confidence to work with data and analytics, supports entry-level data roles, and is the gateway to role-based data certifications. Because it never expires and costs little, it is a low-risk, high-value first data credential.
