The Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate credential (exam AI-103) validates the ability to build, deploy and manage generative-AI applications and AI agents on Azure. This course prepares you for the exam: planning and managing an Azure AI solution; building with Microsoft Foundry (formerly Azure AI Foundry), Azure OpenAI and the Azure AI Agent Service; retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) with Azure AI Search; building and orchestrating AI agents, including multi-agent patterns; content safety and responsible AI; and monitoring and securing AI solutions. Python is the assumed language. AI-103 is the successor to AI-102: Microsoft retired the AI-102 exam and the "Azure AI Engineer Associate" credential on 30 June 2026, rebuilding the role around generative AI and agents. You earn the credential by passing one exam (about 120 minutes, roughly 40 to 60 questions) delivered by Pearson VUE - at a test centre or online. The passing score is 700 on a scale of 100 to 1000 (a scaled score, not a percentage), and the fee is US $165 (varies by country). There is no mandatory prerequisite, though Microsoft recommends Python development experience and familiarity with generative AI and Azure services.
Generative AI and AI agents are the fastest-growing area of cloud development, and this is Microsoft's current, flagship AI developer certification for 2026. It proves you can build, deploy and manage production generative-AI applications and agents on Azure - RAG pipelines, tool-calling and multi-agent solutions, content safety and responsible AI - using Microsoft Foundry and Azure OpenAI. As the successor to AI- 102, it is the credential employers now look for from Azure AI developers.
