The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is the world's most recognised associate-level networking certification. It validates the skills to install, configure, operate and troubleshoot modern networks, across six domains: network fundamentals, network access (VLANs, trunking, wireless), IP connectivity (routing, including OSPF), IP services (NAT, DHCP, NTP, QoS), security fundamentals, and automation and programmability. The February 2026 refresh added greater emphasis on AI, cloud, automation and security. There are no formal prerequisites. Cisco recommends about a year of hands-on networking experience, and CCST Networking is a helpful precursor, but neither is required. The exam (200-301) is delivered through Pearson VUE - online with remote proctoring, or at a test centre - runs 120 minutes with about 100-120 questions including hands-on simulation labs, and costs about US$300 (plus local tax). Note that you cannot return to a previous question once you move on. Cisco does not publish a fixed passing score.
CCNA is the gold-standard associate networking certification - the credential most employers look for when hiring network engineers, administrators and NOC staff. It proves you can configure and troubleshoot real networks, carries enormous name recognition, and opens the door to the professional-level CCNP and specialist tracks. For anyone serious about a networking career, CCNA is the certification to have.
