The Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional is the advanced (professional-level) data engineering certification for the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. It validates that you can build, optimise, secure and maintain production-grade data engineering solutions - not just build a basic pipeline, but run it reliably, efficiently and securely at scale. The certification is earned by passing a single exam: about 60 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes, taken online with remote proctoring, for about US$200. The current exam covers ten areas, led by developing code for data processing in Python and SQL, cost and performance optimisation, data transformation and quality, monitoring and alerting, security and compliance, debugging and deploying, ingestion, governance, data modelling, and data sharing and federation. Questions are scenario-based - they test judgement and trade-offs, not just recall.
The Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional is a senior credential. It goes beyond building pipelines to proving you can run them well in production - optimising cost and performance, monitoring and alerting, deploying safely, and securing and governing data at scale. For experienced data engineers, it is a strong signal of senior capability and a natural step up from the Associate. It validates exactly the skills that lead and platform data-engineering roles demand.
