Microsoft Security, Compliance & Identity Fundamentals (SC-900) is the entry-level security certification for the Microsoft ecosystem. It proves you understand core concepts of security, compliance and identity, and can describe the capabilities of Microsoft's solutions: identity and access management with Microsoft Entra; threat protection and security operations with Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel; and data governance and compliance with Microsoft Purview. The exam has about 40 to 60 questions in roughly 45 to 60 minutes. It is graded on a scaled score: you need 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000 to pass. Because scoring is weighted, 700 does not mean 70% of questions correct. The exam costs about US$99 (varies by region) and is taken online with remote proctoring or at a test centre, delivered through Pearson VUE. There are no prerequisites.
SC-900 is the recognised first step into cybersecurity on the Microsoft platform - and security is one of the highest-demand skill areas in all of IT. It gives beginners the vocabulary and confidence to work with security, identity and compliance, supports entry-level security-adjacent roles, and is the gateway to role-based Microsoft security certifications.
