Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600) is Microsoft's job-role certification for analytics engineering in Microsoft Fabric. It proves you can plan, implement and manage a solution for data analytics; prepare and serve data (using lake houses, warehouses, dataflows, notebooks, SQL and Spark); and implement and manage semantic models (including with DAX). It is a more technical certification than the Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300). The exam has about 40 to 60 questions and can include case studies. It is graded on a scaled score: you need 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000 to pass. Because scoring is weighted, 700 does not mean 70% of questions correct. The exam costs about US$165 (varies by region) and is delivered through Pearson VUE. There is no formal prerequisite, but Microsoft recommends experience with data analytics, data modelling and querying (SQL, DAX and often PySpark).
Microsoft Fabric is a major strategic platform for Microsoft, and demand for engineers who can build analytics solutions on it is growing fast. DP-600 proves you can design and deliver end-to-end analytics in Fabric, supports analytics engineer and BI developer roles, and is a strong technical step up from Power BI (PL-300).
