TOGAF Essentials 2018 is The Open Group's "up-to-date knowledge" credential. It is designed for individuals who achieved TOGAF 9 Certification against Version 9 or 9.1 and want to refresh their knowledge to the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 - the changes introduced to the TOGAF Body of Knowledge in 2018, including the TOGAF Library, additions to the Business Architecture domain, changes to the content metamodel, updated security considerations in the ADM, and updated terms and definitions. This is a certification credential (an Open Badge), not a full certification. To earn it you must be TOGAF 9 Certified, complete a mandatory 3- hour accredited TOGAF Essentials 2018 course (self-study does not qualify), and pass the online assessment (20 questions, simple multiple choice, open book, 30 minutes, 75% pass mark). The credential does not expire. Note: with the TOGAF Standard, 10th Edition now current, this credential is a specific 9.1-to-9.2 refresh - if you want current recognition, ask us whether a 10th-Edition path suits you better.
A TOGAF 9 certification earned some years ago is still valid, but employers and clients may ask whether your knowledge is up to date. TOGAF Essentials 2018 lets a TOGAF 9 Certified professional show, with an Open Badge, that their knowledge is current with the Version 9.2 changes. It is short (a 3-hour accredited course plus a brief open-book assessment) and the badge does not expire. It is also the credential trainers need to be authorized to deliver accredited Version 9.2 courses.
