The Salesforce Certified Technical Architect (CTA) is the pinnacle Salesforce credential. It is a live Review Board evaluation, not a multiple- choice exam: you receive a complex business scenario, have a set time to design a complete enterprise solution, then present and defend that solution to a panel of CTA judges. The evaluation spans several architecture domains - reported as System Architecture, Security, Data, Solution Architecture, Integration, Development Lifecycle and Deployment Planning, and Communication - and your ability to justify trade-offs is part of what is assessed. To attempt the CTA, you must already hold both the Application Architect and System Architect credentials, each of which is earned by passing several component certifications. This is a multi-year journey for experienced architects.
The CTA is the most respected credential in the Salesforce ecosystem. It signals that you can design, justify and defend complete enterprise Salesforce solutions at the highest level - and that you have passed a demanding live Review Board in front of expert judges. Very few people hold it, which is exactly why it carries such weight for senior, lead and principal architect roles. Because it sits at the top of a long prerequisite journey (Application Architect and System Architect, each via component certifications), earning it is a multi-year commitment for experienced architects.

The Salesforce Certified Technical Architect (CTA) Review Board assesses a candidate’s ability to evaluate complex business requirements and design comprehensive Salesforce architecture solutions. It focuses on architecture strategy, data and integration, security, identity, scalability, platform capabilities, and communicating technical decisions to stakeholders. Understanding the review board format, evaluation criteria, architecture domains, and presentation expectations can help experienced Salesforce professionals prepare effectively and demonstrate their ability to lead complex enterprise Salesforce implementations.
Certification details verified on 19 August 2026. Confirm the current CTA Review Board format, domains, prerequisites, fees and maintenance requirements on the Salesforce site. The CTA is a live Review Board evaluation - design, present and defend a complete enterprise solution - not a multiple-choice exam, and there is no "passing percentage". You must first hold both the Application Architect and System Architect credentials. The Review Board fee is far higher than a standard exam (reported around $6,000). The credential has no fixed expiry date but must be maintained through Trailhead.
