PRINCE2 Practitioner is the higher of the two PRINCE2 certifications, and the one that carries real weight with employers. Where Foundation tests whether you know the method, Practitioner tests whether you can apply it - taking the seven principles, seven practices and seven processes and using them to make the right decisions on a realistic project. The exam reflects that. It is open book - you may use the official PRINCE2 manual throughout - and scenario-based, presenting a described project and asking you to apply PRINCE2 to it. It is more demanding than Foundation, and passing it marks you as someone who can actually run projects the PRINCE2 way. To take Practitioner you need a qualifying certification first. That can be PRINCE2 Foundation - but it can also be PMP, CAPM, an IPMA level, or the APM PMQ or PPQ. So if you already hold one of those, you can go straight to Practitioner without taking Foundation.
PRINCE2 Practitioner is the level that carries real employment weight. In the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia, many project manager roles ask specifically for Practitioner, because it proves you can apply the method, not just recite it. For people who already hold PMP or CAPM, adding Practitioner is a fast way to show command of a structured project method that is widely required in these markets - and it can be done without taking Foundation first.
