ISACA CCOA (Certified Cybersecurity Operations Analyst) is ISACA's newest and most hands-on certification, launched in 2025. It proves you can do the practical, day-to-day work of a cybersecurity operations analyst - the kind of role found in a security operations centre (SOC). Rather than testing theory alone, CCOA includes performance-based tasks in a live environment using open-source tools, so it validates real skills. You will cover the five CCOA areas: technology essentials; cybersecurity principles and risk; adversarial tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs); incident detection and response; and securing assets. The exam is a four-hour hybrid of multiple-choice questions and hands-on tasks, scored on a 200-800 scale, with 450 required to pass.
CCOA proves practical, job-ready cybersecurity operations skills - exactly what employers want from a SOC or cyber analyst. Because the exam is performance-based, it demonstrates you can do the work, not just describe it. It is accessible - there is no prerequisite to sit the exam, and it does not carry the heavy multi-year experience-to-certify requirement of ISACA's senior certifications.
