The Certified Information Privacy Professional / Asia (CIPP/A) is the IAPP's certification for the privacy and data protection laws of Asia. This course prepares you for the CIPP/A exam: the privacy laws and frameworks across key Asian jurisdictions; cross-border data transfer within Asia and out of the region; and how to build and operate data protection across the region. CIPP/A is one of five regional concentrations of the CIPP, the IAPP's privacy-law certification. Each concentration covers the law of a region - Asia, Canada, China, Europe or the United States. It pairs naturally with a CIPM (which covers how to run the privacy program). There is no prerequisite to sit the exam. The exam is 90 multiple-choice questions over 2.5 hours (with an optional 15-minute break), delivered by Pearson VUE at a test centre or online. It is scored on a 100-500 scale with a passing score of 300 (a scaled score, not a percentage). Once certified, you hold the certification for a 2-year term and maintain it with 20 CPE credits and a maintenance fee.
Asia is home to some of the world's fastest-developing privacy regimes, and organisations that operate, sell or source there need people who understand the region's data protection law. CIPP/A shows employers you have that regional expertise - across key Asian jurisdictions, cross- border transfer and regional data protection. For a North American organisation with operations, customers, suppliers or data flows in Asia, this is the certification that builds the in-house knowledge to manage that exposure. It pairs naturally with a CIPM for those who also need the privacy program.
