Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals (exam AB-900) is Microsoft's fundamentals certification for people who administer Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents. It is the AI-era successor to the retired MS-900 (Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, retired 31 March 2026) - but it is a different, AI-focused exam, with a deeper focus on Copilot administration, agents, and governance and security. This course prepares you for the single AB-900 exam, covering agent management; permissions and access; and governance and security with Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender and data loss prevention (DLP) policies. A few facts matter. The passing score is 700 on a scale of 100 to 1000 - this is scaled scoring, not 70%. The exam is delivered by Pearson VUE or online proctored, and the fee is about US $165. There is no prerequisite - anyone can take it.
As organisations roll out Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents, they need people who can administer and govern them safely. AB-900 is a fundamentals credential that proves you understand Copilot and agent administration, permissions, and governance with Purview, Defender and DLP. It is a strong entry point for IT administrators and a timely, AI-era update to the old MS-900. As a fundamentals certification it is an accessible first step - not an expert credential - and a good foundation before moving to role-based Microsoft certifications.
