The GitHub Copilot certification (exam GH-300) is the intermediate credential from GitHub (a Microsoft subsidiary) for using GitHub Copilot responsibly and effectively across the software development lifecycle. This course prepares you for the exam: responsible AI; GitHub Copilot plans and features (Individual, Business and Enterprise); how Copilot handles data, privacy fundamentals and content exclusions; prompt engineering and prompt crafting; developer use cases including code completion and testing; and GitHub fundamentals. A few facts are specific to GitHub certifications - and different from Microsoft Azure exams. The fee is US $99 (varies by region), not US $165. The exam is about 65 questions in 100 minutes, proctored, with a passing score of 700 out of 1000 - a scaled score, not a percentage, so do not treat "70%" as a safe pass. Since 1 July 2025, GitHub exams are booked with a Microsoft Learn account and delivered by Pearson VUE, and the badge appears in your Microsoft Learn profile.
GitHub Copilot has the largest installed base of any AI coding assistant, and organisations increasingly want proof that people can use it responsibly and effectively - not just switch it on.
