GitHub Advanced Security training (GH-500) - the intermediate GitHub security certification. Secure code with Code QL, secret scanning and Depend a bot.
Group Enrollment with Friends or Colleagues |
The GitHub Advanced Security certification (exam GH-500) is the intermediate security credential from GitHub (a Microsoft subsidiary). It validates the ability to secure code and software supply chains with GitHub's security tools. This course prepares you for the exam: the GitHub Advanced Security feature set and security overview; secret scanning with push protection; Dependabot and dependency review (the largest area of the exam); code scanning with CodeQL; and security best practices. A few facts are specific to GitHub certifications - and different from Microsoft Azure exams. The fee is US $99 (varies by region), not US $165. The exam is proctored and scored on a scale: recent sources for the current GitHub exams indicate a passing score of 700 out of 1000 - a scaled score, not a percentage, so confirm on the official study guide and never assume "70%". Since 1 July 2025, GitHub exams are booked with a Microsoft Learn account and delivered by Pearson VUE, and the badge appears in your Microsoft Learn profile.
Software supply-chain security is a board-level concern, and GitHub Advanced Security is a widely used way to build security into the developer workflow. GH-500 proves you can find vulnerabilities with CodeQL, stop leaked credentials with secret scanning and push protection, and manage dependency risk with Dependabot - the skills that DevSecOps and platform teams need most. As application security shifts left into the pull request, this credential targets exactly where demand is growing.
