The Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) is the entry certification for the "developer" on a Scrum team - the team member who builds the product. It is issued by Scrum Alliance, and it is the starting point of the developer track that leads to A-CSD and CSP-D. CSD is earned by attending a live 16-hour (two-day) course taught by a Scrum Alliance-approved CSD trainer, in person or online. During the course you complete an assessment set by the trainer - which may be an exam or a hands-on classroom activity - to show you understand Scrum and agile development practices. There are no prerequisites, so you can start whether or not you have a certification already. In this course you will learn the Scrum framework and how a development team turns ideas into working software within it: building quality in, working iteratively and incrementally, collaborating as a team, and delivering a valuable increment each sprint. Most CSD courses are technical and best suited to people building software; if you are not from a technical background, we will help you choose a class designed for a broader audience.
Scrum is used across software development, so a certification that shows you can build quality software within it helps you stand out. CSD demonstrates that you understand the Scrum framework and the foundations of agile engineering - working iteratively, building quality in, and delivering a valuable increment each sprint. Because it has no prerequisites, it is an accessible way for developers to get certified, and it is the required first step toward the advanced A-CSD.
